Jeremiah 33.3 (kjv)
Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
------
How I came to this passage.

For quite awhile (months) I would see the numbers 3:33 on clocks - everywhere. I'd wake up suddenly at 3:33 am and look over to see that time. I would be driving somewhere and glance over at the clock in my car and see 3:33 pm. I would be cooking and my microwave clock would read 3:33 pm. I would see these numbers on license plates, billboards, addresses, etc.

But here's how that worked. For three days in a row, I would either wake-up at 3:33 in the am or see it during the pm - somewhere - either at home or outside the home. Then, after the three days, it would stop. I'd sleep through the night, I'd glance at the clock at different times and not see these numbers. This "timeout" phase would last a week or so and then start back up again - for three days consecutively again.

So, I finally googled 3:33 and found that this phenomenon has happened to many people around the globe. None of us not quite understanding why. Then one day, I saw someone had posted. Check Jeremiah 33:3, the Lord has something to say to you. And, ironcially, while seeking answers everywhere else - we are reminded by the Lord to seek Him with all of our concerns, interests and He will provide us needed information - and information not otherwise KNOWABLE -meaning, information/answers not found anywhere else.

I read this passage and laughed, cried and felt my Lord speaking to me yet again. You can search the Internet, you can read all the academic journals, media magazines or news print you like, you can meet with members of any 'think tank' you can find and analyze the material to death, but when you get real and realize you need Truth and clarity and answers to that which IS unknowable, He is here for us. He has always been here for us.

Next time you want to know about something - anything - consult with the Lord: Jeremiah 33.3.

Bravo Bill, excellent artical and I agree with your answer as to how a pastor of today should conduct himself In his everyday life as a foundation. In addition, a pastor must remain teachable and open to the changes occuring in today's world lest he become an old wineskin and more of a hinderance than a help. Using the Internet, facebook,YouTube etc.are good examples of what is available today as tools of communication. Rush limbaugh, a master communicator who is simply good at what he does. He too says you must stay relevant and entertaining. He has worked hard at what he does and always delivers in the area of content and entertains while he does it. Movies like "passion of the Christ" reached 750 million people is a great example of effective gospel communication by a layman no less. We as Christians have the ultimate message that needs no changing, just compelling content.

Thank you! As you said, this is meant as no criticism of those who are out there making the church "relevant" - we must assume that as Christians, they have been called by God to that mission. But perhaps not all Christians are so called - perhaps some of us are called, like the monasteries during the social dissolution of the Dark Ages, to simply (and courageously) hold onto the goodness, truth and beauty of our core and tradition, so that it is preserved intact and ready to share with those who are coming out of the darkness and seeking light.
