Oden Fong on Prop. 8

By pastorbillwalden

Maybe we should render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things which are Gods. Marriage between a man and a woman is God’s proclamation. God doesn’t recognize marriage outside of what He had decreed, just as Caesar doesn’t recognize God. The carnal mind cannot discern spiritual things.

If Caesar decides to have same-sex marriages, we may grieve but have no say in the matter. Our votes do not count when you have people in power who say that the proposition you voted for was illegal to begin with.

They have already decided that homosexuality is something people are born to be and therefore it is normal. If you feel something strongly with great conviction, it’s normal! Even if the biological plumbing doesn’t fit.

These same minds believe that we are a cosmic accident; from the Big Bang to many smaller bangs. Our existence is purely accidental and there is no Designer.

I predict that same-sex marriages will become commonplace in the world’s civilizations because man has fallen so far from God that morality will become more and more perverse until morality no longer exists for the majority of humanity.

It’s in the prophecies. Perhaps, we should, rather than trying to fight what is already going to happen (politically), we should fight to rise above the darkness ourselves and stay close to the Lord.

The church is filled with carnality. Why should anyone listen to the Body of Christ if the Body is carnal? Most secular people believe that they are at least as moral as the Christian they know.

Jesus and the apostles, including Paul did not fight directly against secular perversion, but proclaimed the kingdom of God in contrast. They did not try to overthrow the idol worshipping culture with it’s temple prostitutes. They extended God’s pardon of salvation through Jesus Christ to all who would accept it.

Behold Noah and his family, how they escaped while the rest of the world was washed away. Judgement is in the hands of the Almighty! Those who scoff at God will find themselves at the wrong end of His judgment. It’s so sad. It’s heartbreaking that mankind has chosen (once again) this path leading to his own destruction.

Oden,
I agree with you. Fight as hard as I have to be Salt and Light in this world (and also in the church), I believe that this battle has changed for us now.
Traditional marriage has been broken down for a long time, and now with this aggressive push to not only stomp all over traditional marriage- but also to take it over- we as Christians need to have a fresh direction.
We are living in a Post Christian Culture- or a Pagan culture. The paradigm shift of values is almost complete, and it may be quite a while before complacent secular-Christians wake up and decide to follow God.
Apart from a great spiritual awakening in the lives of all people, I believe we are headed into dark times as was prophesied.
The question that I am asking God right now is what is our next step? Do we still try to alert the church to these rapid downward spiral changes? Do we still try to fight to be a voice in our community, etc.?
What is the balance for us now?

Deb, thanks for putting into the words the vague questions going through my mind this week. It’s tough to know where to push forward and where to recede. Oden is right that we need to still share Christ, in contrast to what the world (“Caesar”) offers. That should be the primary focus of our lives, always. However, I cannot see that we would step back from our roles as individual citizens with regard to voting, continuing to be educated about the differences between candidates, issues, bills, etc. It’s painful to realize that more and more of the world around us, even the “nice” people, just do not want what we have. They don’t want WHOM we have. I sometimes find myself thinking that one day they will have things the way they seem to want them, when Christians are either completely marginalized or removed altogether. But we still have to keep occupying and trying to influence while we may.

well said render unto caeser. The kingdoms of this world are satans. The born again are CHRIST the world wants nothing to do with GOD they are blinded and deceived in the last days what is evil will be called good and what is good will be called evil before christ people didnt know GOD personally like they did and do after his resurrection . satan has control of this world and all those who are in it are lost, we cannot stop people from sinning nor would i want to with out it they will never know the goodness of GOD and the choice to not live in sin but to live in JESUS and be right before GOD

Oden, your countrymen thank you for choosing to honor the rights with which they were endowed by their creator—-particularly the right to the pursuit of happniness.

Thank you also for pointing out that God and Caesar (the government) are running two completely separate programs, and that Christians were never commanded to go banging on Caesar’s door demanding that he use his Earthly power to wrest Christian behavior out of their neighbors.

I dissagree heartily though, with your assessment of the morality of this situation. Judge Walker, for example, chose to uphold a vow he took—-a vow he probably took before God (as in “….so help me God”) to protect and defend the constitution above all else. The Fourteenth Amendment required him to uphold equal protection under the law for all Americans. In his court, the proponents of the California ban against gay marriage could not support any of the claims they brought against gay couples. So he regarded it as false witness which they had brought against their neighbors. Does it really sound to you like he acted immorally? If so, bring it up at the shores of the lake of fire, and see what Jesus has to say.

Oden that was very well said – thank you, Bill for posting it.

I appreciate this analysis and believe it is right in terms of acting as a Christian per se. However, I agree with Kim. We are also citizens of a democracy – a democracy whose foundation is Judaeo-Christian. To subvert the values inherent in that democracy (as in accepting “gay marriage”), is to undermine the society built on them. So, as a Christian per se I may be excused from fighting against this, but as a citizen who, because of my Christian belief system, can see the danger of accepting “gay marriage,” I must continue to oppose it.

its so easy to judge your gay brothers and sisters in Christ. Trust me, being gay is NOT a choice. Read Matt:19:11-12. Please explain the eunuchs “born that way”. Jesus speaks of 3 different eunuchs. 2 are easily explained, one type made by man, ie castrated. The other made by choice to serve God. Can you explain the one made by God? Jesus says in verse 11, “Not everyone can accept this”. He was speaking to his disciples. I’m convinced they did not understand Him. Calvary has spent almost as much time and energy on your anti-gay agenda as the Morman’s. Yet Jesus said, if you look after a woman to lust after her, you’ve committed adultery. Are you innocent enough to toss stones at those born gay? Careful, there are souls that you are turning away from heaven, instead of trying to reach them.

Saint to saint, Christians who happen to be gay are on the same level as those who happen not to be gay because those who believe and confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord are the same ones who have a standing in grace that can not be taken away. Ro 5:2. Jesus said no one can take you out of my hand, John wrote whosoever believes in me will have eternal life and also wrote about Jesus that, behold I stand at the door and knock, whosoever opens…Christian gays are beyond seeking your approval, come and worship with us. We have a lot to teach you about humility.
