You Live

By pastorbillwalden

My heart is beating in my throat
The pain deep in my bones
The anesthetic of numbness and pain
Co-mingle and envelope

Tears flow easy, hard, and strong
Regret and joy speeds through my brain
I could have done better, been more like you
But it was good, wasn’t it good?

You’re gone now
I saw your body
It didn’t move
Was that really you?

That wasn’t you
Just the shell of you
You’re with our God and Savior

You live, you live
You live with Him and her and us
You live, you live
I don’t think I’ll ever forget you

I see the love, the sorrow, the pain
Tears like rain, like summer rain
Sensed and suddenly appearing
Quickly gone, then back again

You left your mark, you left two marks
You left more than most men will know
Jesus filled you up and poured you out
Faster than anyone I know

The season of tears and memory
Has just begun, and I can see
It’s not a season that should pass, but is part
Of what someday I might be

You live, you live
You live with Him and her and us
You live, you live
I don’t think I’ll ever forget you
